When I tried activating my Starlink kit, I ran into an activation error that stopped the process. I checked my Starlink identifier, account details, and service location before trying again. These are the main things I would check if Starlink.com/Activate is not working.
Common Starlink Activation Errors and Fixes
1. Check Your Starlink Identifier
The first thing to check is the Starlink Identifier you entered. For a retail kit, the Kit Serial Number can be found on the shipping label. You can also find the Terminal ID in the Starlink app under Settings → Advanced → STARLINK.
Enter the identifier exactly as shown. If you receive an Invalid Device ID error, check every letter and number before trying again.
2. Make Sure the Country Is Correct
Starlink requires the country selected on its website to match the country used when registering the account. A mismatch can prevent the kit from activating.
Check the country selector before submitting your activation again.
3. Check Whether the Starlink Is Already Assigned
A Starlink that is currently assigned to another account cannot simply be activated on a new account. This can happen with previously used or transferred hardware.
If you purchased a used Starlink, the previous owner may need to transfer the hardware before you can activate it.
4. Check Service Availability
Activation can also fail if your location does not have capacity for the plan you selected. Starlink says Standard and Priority plans cannot be activated in capacity-limited areas. A Roam option may be available instead.
Check your service address and the plans available for that location.
5. Check Your Account Type
Some plan and account combinations are restricted. Starlink currently does not support activating Standard or Roam plans in an existing Business-type account.
If you are using an existing account, make sure it supports the service plan you are trying to activate.
6. Try the Starlink App
Starlink recommends using the Starlink app to activate your kit. Connect your phone to the STARLINK Wi-Fi network, open the app, and follow the activation instructions.
If the app is already open but appears stuck, close it completely and reopen it before trying the activation again.
7. Check Your Internet Connection
For a new retail kit, Starlink provides one hour of internet access when the kit is first plugged in. This is intended to give you time to complete activation without another internet connection. If that access has been used, you can complete activation through another internet connection.
8. Check the Hardware
Make sure the Starlink dish, router, and power cables are properly connected. If the equipment is not communicating correctly, reconnect the cables and allow the system a few minutes to start up.
Then reopen the Starlink app and check the connection status.
9. Verify the Kit Purchase
If you purchased the kit from a retailer or third party, make sure the seller is authorized. Starlink states that it cannot activate service for hardware purchased from an unauthorized retailer or reseller.
10. Try the Activation Process Again
Once you have corrected the problem, return to the activation page and enter your identifier and email address again. Depending on your situation, choose New Account or Existing Account, then enter your service address, select a plan, provide contact and billing information, and complete the order.
11. Contact Starlink Support
If the error continues even though your identifier and account information are correct, contact Starlink Support. Starlink specifically recommends contacting support when an Invalid Device ID error continues after checking the identifier.
Final Thoughts
Most Starlink.com/Activate errors can be resolved by checking the Starlink identifier, country, account status, service address, plan availability, and hardware connection. I would check these items in that order before contacting support. If everything is correct and the activation still fails, Starlink Support can investigate the specific device or account issue.
